Professor Sunday Abayomi Adebisi has always been a trailblazer right from his undergraduate days at the University of Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, where he graduated with First-Class Honours and ranked as the overall best graduating student of Class 2001 in his Department and Faculty — and 2nd overall best graduating student in the entire University. He proceeded to the University of Ilorin for his MBA (ranked overall best of his set, earning automatic PhD admission), and completed his Doctoral programme in flying colours, being nominated for a National Best PhD Thesis Award in 2010.

In 2018, Professor Adebisi's proposal won the hosting rights of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Centre of Excellence for the University of Lagos — making UNILAG the Leader and Hub in Africa for research in Skills Development and Sustainable Entrepreneurship to combat youth unemployment. He was subsequently saddled with implementing the PRAC-4-YUSA project: a UKRI-GCRF ARUA Capacity Building Grant of GBP 600,000 — one of the largest Africa-focused research grants in entrepreneurship and employment.

He recently emerged as the First Occupier-Professor of the Dr. Mike Adenuga (Jnr) Professorial Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies — the first of its kind in any Nigerian University. He was the Lead Researcher (Rocket Data Star) of the Regional Entrepreneurship Accelerated Program (REAP) — a partnership between the University of Lagos and MIT, USA. He was also appointed Project Manager and Research Advisor for the $500,000 Shell Nigeria (SNEPCo) M(E)thanol Clean Cookstoves Commercial Pilot in Lagos — the first of its kind in West Africa — for which the University seconded him to Shell for two years.

He led UNILAG students to win the Coca-Cola Global Management Challenge nationally, representing Nigeria in Dubai and later in Russia. He led 22 teams of 156 students and 35 lecturers to design 22 new product and service prototypes in Lufthansa's Design Thinking project (2017). He is the Track Expert for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainable Development Goals in Africa. Professor Adebisi has approximately 50 journal articles published in revered academic journals across the world.

His passion is to ensure that Africa replicates the Silicon Valley of America — engendering sporadic innovation and entrepreneurship development for poverty eradication and economic self-sufficiency. He strongly believes that the businesses that will make Nigeria and African countries globally competitive are embedded in university campuses and can be harnessed through deliberate, structured support.
